10 Things To Do to Celebrate Mother’s Day This Year

If you’re looking for things to do for Mother’s Day (it’s 10th March, just in case you’d forgotten…), you’ve come to the right place.

The Blossoming Gifts team have racked our brains for timeless, original, thoughtful and fun ways to celebrate your leading lady.

Your lovely mum deserves to feel special, so if you’re short of ideas for Mother’s Day gifts or activities, look no further.

Compile a scrapbook of your relationship

Take Mum on a trip down memory lane by surprising her with a scrapbook full of photos of you both over the years.

Start with funny snapshots from when you were a tot and keep going all the way up to the present day, when you’re hopefully better – and less tiring! – company. Jot down any family jokes, quotes or memorable moments, and rope in your siblings to help.

Have some tissues to hand, as she’ll be crying with love and laughter as you flick through the finished product together!

Help her find her inner florist

Flower arranging is a fun activity that you can enjoy come rain or shine. Our gorgeous selection of letterbox flowers makes it easy to arrange; simply order one of each box to arrive on Mother’s Day, before creatively displaying the stems yourselves.

Choose from Wild Meadow (lilac roses, pink wax flowers, white snapdragons and bouvardia), Pomegranate Punch (pink antique carnations, lilac roses and hypericum berries) and Spring Meadow (daffodils, iris and yellow tulips). Mum will then enjoy them for at least five days afterwards, as per our happiness guarantee.

Paint her something personal at a pottery café

Not only for children, pottery cafés are the perfect place to while away an afternoon over a mindful spot of painting.

Enjoy some quality time with Mum – that’s always top of her wishlist, after all! – and gift her your finished product afterwards, be it a mug for her morning coffee or a jug for those fabulous flowers that you’ve dutifully bought her. Even if you’re not a natural painter, it’ll likely be better than the ‘art’ you used to bring her home from school…

Treat her to a luxury afternoon tea

Few mums would turn their noses up at an oh so elegant afternoon tea, complete with the finest cuppa, glass of fizz and sweet treats you can imagine. She’ll want someone to share it with, making this one of those pressies that you get to enjoy too (the best kind, we’re sure you’ll agree).

Lots of hotels and restaurants offer this service, but if she’d feel more comfortable kicking back at home with some fancy foodie delights, you can always order in a hamper, or treat her to one of our bouquets paired with a tempting bottle of bubbly or wine.

Cook her up a spring-themed lunch

If you’re a dab hand in the kitchen, thank your mum for all those Sunday roasts by treating her to a homemade spring-time feast.

If you’re at the opposite end of the spectrum to Nigella Lawson, keep it simple by creating a colourful grazing table full of yummy ‘picky bits’ from the shops.

Fill vases with seasonal blooms like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths and dot them amongst your spread to remind her that summer is finally on its way. Our sunny bunch of 100 daffodils is less than £30, and easy to split up into pretty posies.

Pig out on popcorn at a Sunday showing

If it’s been years since Mum last watched a movie on the silver screen, pick a film that’s currently showing, splurge on some overpriced popcorn, pick ‘n’ mix and ice-cream (yes, all three) and try to resist nattering all the way through it (#guilty).

Take her for a picnic

The mercury is slowly rising, so if the forecast looks good for Mother’s Day, grab all those layers and take your mum for a picnic in your local park or beauty spot.

If she loves getting active outdoors, combine a yummy lunch with a leisurely walk or cycle. If you live near the coast, you can’t go wrong with a day out at the seaside.

Just remember to bring her tipple of choice to raise a toast! You’ll find Whispering Angel rosé and pink prosecco among our selection of gifts, along with classic Guylian chocolates for a sweet treat. Ooh la la!

Indulge her with a cheese tasting (with wine!)

Sunday afternoons pair perfectly with wine and cheese, so why not put together your own tasting board for an indulgent day in? Pair it with a bottle of wine or two, and sample then all together and vote for your favourite combos.

Hit the shops

If in doubt and all that. With summer just around the corner (hurrah!), it’s the perfect time to start zhuzhing up your holiday wardrobe.

Whether you’ve got a trip planned with mum this year or not, chances are she’s in need of a new hat, linen dress or pair of sunnies. So hit the shops!

Even if you don’t end up buying anything, those changing room fashion shows are always fun. Make a pit stop for lunch or a slice of cake, then shop till you drop!

Get out in the garden

If your mum has a garden, be it a sprawling lawn or a modest patio, late March is the perfect time to start growing her own flowers, herbs, fruit or veg. Bond over a spot of seed sowing or work up an appetite for a pub lunch by pruning shrubs, weeding borders and planting up tubs.

To spruce up her outdoor space immediately, ready for al fresco gatherings, gift her our elegantly wrapped olive tree.

Olive trees prefer sunny positions (tricky in Britain, we know…) and will need regular watering, but they’re thoughtful gifts that will last longer than cut flowers. If she prefers house plants, we’ve got that covered too, with a fantastic selection of gorgeous rose, orchid, and hydrangea plants available.
