Don’t forget that all of our bouquets are also covered by our Happiness Guarantee, meaning if your bouquet doesn’t last at least 5 days, we’ll happily replace it for you.

Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums have always been a classic for bouquets. They’re amazingly versatile, as there are hundreds of varieties offering a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colours, and textures. They’re also available all year round, making them a floral staple no matter the season.

Best of all, whether it’s a huge spider chrysanthemum or a mini santini chrysanthemum, there’s one thing they all have in common and it’s that they have an exceptional vase life. Chrysanthemums will almost always last two weeks when looked after properly, with some even making it to three or four weeks.

Chrysanthemums will usually outlast other stems in an arrangement, but there’s no need to throw out the whole bunch – simply remove the wilted flowers, and continue to enjoy your chrysanthemums!

Carnations

Carnations’ characteristic fringed petals make them a lovely way to add texture and volume to bouquets. They’ve always been a popular cut flower, as their delicate appearance means they complement other flowers well. Like chrysanthemums, they’re also usually available throughout the year, and as they bloom in a wide variety of shades – including white, pink, red, yellow, green, and purple – it’s easy to find a variety that matches seasonal blooms.

Carnations are also one of the longest lasting cut flowers, typically lasting two to three weeks in a vase. Just make sure to keep them away from fresh fruit – they’re extremely sensitive to ethylene, and this can reduce their vase life.

Orchids

Orchid plants are loved for their long-lasting blooms, and they’re also fantastic cut flowers as well! The orchid’s eye-catching exotic flowers add a touch of luxury and opulence to bouquets, and they’re very long-lasting as well. Dendrobium, cymbidium, and vanda orchids are some of the most popular cut orchids, and all of them will usually last between two and three weeks. They do prefer a cooler environment, so try to keep them away from radiators and other heat sources.

For year-round blooms, opt for an orchid plant – depending on the variety, their flowers last up to six months, and they’ll usually rebloom once or twice a year.

Lilies

Did you know lilies have been used in perfumes for thousands of years? This famous fragrance along with their huge, elegant blooms makes them an enduring favourite for bouquets too, and luckily, they also last a long time. We make sure to send our lilies in bud, as this means they’ll be kept safe on their journey to you, and you’ll get to make the most of their long vase life as they open up. Usually, lilies will last for around 10 to 14 days in a vase.

Sunflowers

Radiant sunflowers are always a crowd-pleaser. Available in the summer and autumn, these happy blooms are known for the way their blooms follow the sun. Sunflowers are another long-lasting flower, and they’ll typically last up to 12 days in a vase. We send our sunflowers in bud too, helping to make sure they last longer. Sunflowers can be quite thirsty flowers, so make sure to give them fresh water regularly to keep them fresh.

Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria resemble miniature lilies – in fact, they’re sometimes called Peruvian lilies, or lilies of the Incas! They bloom in clusters of small, brightly coloured blooms and look beautiful alongside bigger flowers like roses, gerberas, and chrysanthemums. Although they look delicate, alstroemeria are fairly tough, with a vase life of up to 2 weeks.

Lisianthus

Lisianthus are characterised by their rose-like flowers and delicate, layered petals. They’re available in pretty much any colour you could want, including white, yellow, pink, and purple, and represent peace, gratitude, and thoughtfulness. We send our lisianthus in bud, and they’re excellent long-lasting flowers, usually lasting between 10 and 14 days in a vase when cared for properly.

Carthamus

Carthamus are also called safflowers, and are part of the thistle family. They bloom with spiky orange or yellow flowers, making them the perfect way to add striking texture and complementary colour to autumn bouquets. Carthamus usually last around 9 or 10 days in a vase, but will sometimes last up to 2 weeks.

Brassica

Brassicas are ornamental cabbages, and although this might sound like an odd choice for a bouquet, their rosette-shaped blooms are very striking. They look a little like very large roses, and they tend to last longer than roses too, with a vase life of up to two weeks. Make sure to change their water regularly – they are cabbages at the end of the day, and the water can start to smell a bit if it’s not replaced. Plus, fresh water will help keep your brassicas fresh as well!

Amaryllis

Amaryllis is most popular around Christmas, and luckily its huge, trumpet-shaped blooms will keep your home looking festive throughout the season! They’ll usually last at least two weeks, but with a bit of extra care, three weeks isn’t unusual. For even longer-lasting blooms, try an amaryllis plant, which will usually keep its flowers for around seven weeks.
