How to Decorate the Perfect Christmas Tree

Get festive by decorating your tree to the best that it can be!

The 1st of December has finally crept upon us, meaning it’s time to put up your Christmas tree and other decorations in time for Santa. The official day to put up your Christmas tree is called National Tree Dressing Day and will be held on 6th December – perfect for family time!

Why do we decorate trees?

Decorating Christmas trees is a tradition dating back hundreds of years, but Queen Victoria made having and decorating a Christmas tree popular in the UK in the 1800s. Traditionally they were decorated with candles, which have now been replaced with lights, to remind people of the journey to Jesus following the stars, as does the star on the top of the tree.

Christmas Tree Decoration Ideas

Today we have a huge range of Christmas tree decorations to suit everyone’s tastes (and living rooms!) including tinsel, lights, baubles and chocolates hung from the tree. Whether you have a real tree, an artificial tree or a fibreoptic tree we have plenty of ideas to help you achieve maximum festivity and Christmas cheer!

The Frosted Tree

To achieve this slightly frosty look decorate your Christmas tree with white, silver and gold baubles and white lights only. If you wish to add a pop of colour add pale pinks, blues, and other soft pastels. Finish with a dusting of snow (you can usually find spray snow in shops) and some presents under your tree! It’s super cheap, and a great way to make your very own winter wonderland.

The Minimalist Tree

Stuck for space in your flat? No problem! If you can’t fit a real tree into your apartment then you can just use the walls instead. Simply collect some branches and attach them together vertically with string. Decorate with pinecones and a few baubles and drape some lights over. Simple!

The Rustic Tree

Get this look for your tree by mixing traditional festive red coloured decorations with outdoorsy browns. Burlap’s a great and quirky alternative to tinsel and you can choose to buy the pinecones or go find them on a hike! For extra sparkle tie gold ribbons at the top of the pinecones.

The Eclectic Tree

Get jazzy with a mish-mash of different decorations. Everybody in the house can choose their own Christmas tree decoration to hang on the tree to make this time super fun for all the family. It’s also great if you have family heirlooms and homemade decorations passed down over the years (or if you’ve just accumulated so many Christmas tree decorations you don’t know what to do with them)! Add some twinkle with coloured lights draped around the tree!

Miniature Christmas Trees

The ultimate space-saving solution, miniature Christmas trees are an adorable way to enjoy a real tree in smaller spaces. Best of all, ours come with decorations and lights included, so it only takes a few minutes to get yours set up. They make super cute gifts too!
