Daffodils’ meanings reflect their status as one of the earliest signs of spring; they represent new beginnings, rebirth, hope, and renewal. These happy flowers are ideal for celebrating birthdays or big achievements, as well as Mother’s Day, Easter, or the arrival of a new baby.

Daffodils are also the Welsh National Flower, and conveniently their season lines up well with St David’s Day on 1st March!

Most people will be familiar with the classic yellow daffodil; these are trumpet daffodils, and are characterised by their long stems topped by a single yellow flower with a ‘trumpet’ centre. However, there’s thousands of different types of flower in the Narcissi family, and along trumpet daffodils we also have a selection of bouquets including paperwhites. These are smaller than the yellow variety, with each stem producing clusters of dainty, white star-shaped flowers with a yellow centre. What they lack in size they more than make up for in scent, bringing a heady, sweet springtime fragrance to bouquets.

Our daffodils arrive in bud, so don’t worry if they initially look a little underwhelming; those thin green buds will bloom beautifully after a few days in water. Trim the stems, place your daffodils in a vase with fresh water and add the flower food included with your bouquet.

We recommend changing the water in your vase every couple of days. This is because daffodil stems release a sap which can cloud the water quickly and make it hard for your flowers to stay hydrated.

Daffodil season begins at the end of winter, and lasts throughout spring.
