Irises

Rich in history and symbolism, the name iris comes from Greek mythology, translating to rainbow. There’s around 300 species of this delicate flower available, with a range of colours. In general, iris is thought to be associated with royalty, although during Victorian times, it was often given to friends as a way of expressing gratitude. Blue irises in particular are seen as a symbol of hope, faith and deep trust, and are the official 25th wedding anniversary flower.

Add a rustic touch to your bouquet with forget-me-nots. The delicate blue flowers are a symbol of true love and faithfulness, and look great paired with complimentary flowers like white roses or foliage. Legend has it that on his way to deliver flowers to his beloved, a knight fell into water and sank due to his armour. Before he drowned, he threw the flowers to his love and said: “Forget me not”. Forget-me-nots are also used by The Alzheimer’s Society as a symbol of memory loss to raise awareness for the disease.

While blue roses don’t exist naturally, they can be dyed to create a bright and beautiful blue hue. They are super rare and often pricier than classic red roses, however if you do get your hands on them they will add an instant burst of colour to your bouquet. A symbol of inspiration, they are a great way to convey admiration for a special person in your life. Due to their elusive nature, they’re also said to symbolise mystery.

One of the most popular summer flowers with over 300 species, beautiful delphiniums are great for adding height and colour to a bouquet. A symbol of dignity, blue delphiniums are a great gift for a friend or loved ones who need cheering up as they evoke feelings of joy and fun. They’ve got a delightful array of positive meanings, including devotion, love, elegance, and hope, making them a wonderful addition to any bouquet, no matter the occasion.

Blooming late-spring to summer, clematis is available in a wide range of colours and is said to symbolise mental cleverness in floriography.
